Levels and Recreational Grades Grades are being replaced with skills and recreational grades. In order to compete you must have passed the relevant skill level. Your coach will be able to to tell you which level is needed for which competition. Below is a summary of each level with a link to the full pdf document which describes each skill in detail. The pdf documents can also be found on the resources page of the synchro section of the ASA web site. If you would prefer to concentrate on the recreational grades and not compete then download this pdf from the ASA web site which details all 5 grades. Skill Level 1 1. Step entry 2. Stationary eggbeater 3. Back layout 4. 10 metres head first sculling using standard scull 5. Back tucked somersault (Figure 310) 6. Inverted vertical supported by bottles 7. Count to 2 pieces of music with a basic count of 8. These must have different speeds. (standard tape provided) 8. Prone position travelling 5 metres using reverse scoop scull 9. Standing in shoulder depth water demonstrating support sculling action 10. Sitting against a wall demonstrating fully extended knees 11. Sitting against a wall demonstrating fully extended knees and plantar flexed feet. An angle at ankle of at least 170 degrees 12. Right leg splits on land demonstrating an angle of at least 140 degrees It is very important that you download and read the Level 1 pdf which describes in full detail each of the above skills. Skill Level 2 1. Travelling eggbeater with trailing arm vertical 2. Kick, pull, kick over for 25 metres 3. Inverted tuck showing support scull 4. Hanging inverted vertical at ankle level 5. Reverse scoop scull moving from front layout into front pike 6. Ballet leg figure supported by bottles 7. Back layout to bent knee and return to back layout. Repeat on other knee 8. Split position in water supported by bottles demonstrating an angle of at least 140º with extended knees Right leg forward 9. Torpedo scull 10 metres 10. Head First Dive 11. Side flutter kick into front pike 12.On land, Prone Plank held for 10 secs. It is very important that you download and read the Level 2 pdf which describes in full detail each of the above skills. Skill Level 3 1. Travelling eggbeater, with both arms vertical, 5 metres in one direction 2. Head first boost from underwater. 3. Side fishtail position travelling 5 metres vertical leg leading 4. Dolphin start from back layout into Surface Arch demonstrating split scull 5. Porpoise lift supported by bottles 6. Crane position (mid thigh) demonstrating support scull 7. Inverted bent knee ½ twist 8. Inverted vertical position at knee height 9. Sprint torpedo 20metre 10. Front pike somersault from Front layout to submerged double ballet leg position 11. Head first dive from one foot from the poolside 12. Flat splits on land. Right leg. Inverted vertical held above the knees followed by a vertical descent. 2. Crane position, join to vertical 3. Half twist in vertical position at or above the knee 4. Travelling rising and sinking vertical 5. Barracuda (Figure 301) 6. Catalina rotation from ballet leg to crane 7. From ballet leg, Eiffel Tower movement to crane position 8. From back pike position with legs at the surface. Circle one leg through an arched fishtail position and return to starting position. Perform twice without taking a breath on one leg and twice on the other leg. (Piked to arched fishtail circles) 9. Walkout from split position to back layout 10. Kip lift from inverted tuck to inverted vertical position 11. Travelling double ballet leg for 5 metres 12. Ariana rotation. One split must be at least 150º and the other and box split at least 140º It is very important that you download and read the Level 4 pdf which describes in full detail each of the above skills. Skill Level 5 1. 10 metres underwater followed by a rocket split 2. 10 metres underwater followed by a head first boost 3. Travelling inverted vertical changing height and direction. 4. Inverted vertical followed by a continuous spin of at least 720º 5. Double arm egg-beater travelling sideways 5 metres followed by a twirl followed by 5 metres travel with the opposite shoulder leading 6. Inverted vertical with 2 twirls. One twirl in one direction and the 2nd twirl in the opposite direction 7. Aurora Open 360º from Fishtail position to back layout 8. Ibis tip from Ballet Leg to Crane position 9. 10 metres underwater followed by a Heron thrust and twirl 10. Nova beginning from Back layout to Inverted Bent Knee position 11. Starting in Fishtail position with left leg vertical, switch legs to right leg vertical and then return to left leg 12.
