Portsmouth Victoria Victorious!
November 2006
 |
On November 9th, Guinness World Record Day, two teams from Aquabatix were to battle it out in the freezing waters of the Trafalgar square fountains.
One team was from Portsmouth Victoria Synchronised Swimming Club, Kathryn Pounder and Becci MacEnri the other from Bristol Swimming Club, Alice Waldock and Megan Gibbs.
Nelson was watching over the water battle that was about to commence. |
Braving the November chill with determination and creative flair, two teams of synchronised swimmers attempted the highest number of ballet leg switches that could be performed in synchronisation in one minute. Both teams proved their strength of mind and athleticism during the attempt with the team from Portsmouth achieving 71 switches beating the team from Bristol by 10 switches.

The new World Record holders Kathryn Pounder and Becci MacEnri from Portsmouth Victoria Synchronised Swimming Club, had this to say about today's new World Record " It was quite tough due to the temperature of the water but we went for it and are very pleased with our achievement. It is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in such a great event".
Becci is a member of the Junior GB squad and Kathryn Pounder is currently Project Development Officer for PVSC, and also a past National Solo and Duet Champion and GB Team representative. |
Following the recent launch of Disney AquaFun, in conjunction with the release of the Little Mermaid DVD, Kathryn is promoting Synchronised Swimming in the Portsmouth area, both at the club and at schools. She hopes that with all the recent publicity, “The Big Dance” on BBC 1, and also appearing on MTV’s Bustamove, and the Guinnes World Record, people’s perception of Synchronised Swimming will change from the stereotypical Esther Williams’ flowered hats and colgate smile days, to that of a dynamic and exciting sport.
Portsmouth Victoria Synchronised Swimming club is aiming for the 2012 Olympics and is encouraging as many new swimmers both girls and boys to join.
We are very proud to be Guinness World Record holders.
